For this example we are just going to download the Windows version of one of the free fonts on the sites homepage. Finding and Installing Fonts on Your Computer Before you can put fonts on GIMP, you need to find and install them. Fortunately, there are hundreds of websites that offer stylish fonts for free (see Resources for examples). Search for fonts and download them to a folder on your computer. The file extension must be '.ttf'.

If the fonts are archived, extract them in a folder on your machine using WinRAR or any other free archiving utility. Instead of installing each font after you download it, make a collection of fonts and install them all at once. Installation to Windows Fonts GIMP is set by default to look for fonts in the default Windows Fonts folder, so if you install the fonts correctly, the software will be able to find and load them automatically. To install the fonts, open the folder where you stored them, press 'Ctrl-A' to select all fonts, right-click one of them and select 'Install' from the context menu. The fonts are installed in the default Fonts folder, so that GIMP can easily find and load them. Note that, if you use this method, the new fonts will be placed in the same folder with the default Windows fonts and it might be difficult for you to find specific fonts.
