Finally, there is only one card with general applicability, and - for the cost of 1 - it does not seem very strong. The Watcher is one of the toughest enemies yet seen in the Lord of the Rings card game. Regeneration 3 and a defense of 7 mean that you need to deal 11 damage per round to make any progress at all. Needless to say, if your adventurers aim to slowly chip away at the Watcher, they will die one by one. Durin's Doors, on the other hand, provide an interesting and less combat-heavy way to win the quest. While your first attempt will entirely depend on your luck, you can build yourself a deck optimised to tackle this stage in no time. If you escaped from a hopeless combat with the Watcher after deciding to invest everything in a last-second escape attempt to open the doors, you feel just like the Fellowship of the Ring (before they were trapped, anyway). What I really liked about this final stage is the ferocious pacing of the game. You stand a the doors, discarding precious player cards each turn in hopes to find the entrace. The Watcher is mercilessly decimating your forces while you might not be able to get past his tentacles to get to him. These tentacle enemies are not particularly tough but provide some high risk situations and uncertainty to the combat.
Most importantly, these cards capture the flavour of being engaged with one single powerful enemy. I was initially afraid that the Misty Mountains Encounter Deck would interfer by suddenly placing mountainous locations into the staging area and thought it would be better to discard the deck and continue on with the Watcher in the Water deck, only. However, the only locations in the Misty Mountains deck are (semi)-believable and explain the sudden occurrence of wargs. Other Player Cards Highly specific. If you like Noldor characters, you will hug a tentacle, if you don't you'll bang your head against Durin's Doors. Scenario One of the most intense battles of the game so far. The Doors of Durin are mechanically well captured and provide an alternative finish for less combat-heavy decks.
However, specifically desgined decks or pure luck can make the final quest stage feel highly anti-climatic. Overall A great scenario with very specific player cards.
